It is a tough thing to reflect on ones own artistic creations. Furthermore, the critique and deconstruction of one's work in many instances may lead to deep introspective analysis that leads one to believe a.) Artistically, they are a complete failure; or b.) Artistically, they are the next Michelangelo. Either way the conclusion arrived at does not seem to be one that is conducive to creating meaningful works of art. Recently my area of emphasis has been focused intensely with fine woodworking. The repetitive nature of the woodworking seems to fit my personality quite well. I particularly enjoy constucting one of a kind cutting boards, jewelry boxes and custom pieces of furniture. However, this does not mean that I have lost interest in other areas of fine art such as painting and sculpture, both of which I continue to work on today. It is through my work that my personality shows through: an obsession with repetitive processes and an uncanny attention for detail highlights who I am. I create the work I do because it gives me the opportunity to express myself on a universal level. Specifically I believe that my work is a direct reflection of who I am, and reflects what I stand for and believe in. |
