How to bend wood?

The different materials which are required to have bent wooden strips would include:

Wood is highly used in a number of operations which we are doing. There are many reasons for using wood which will include its light weight, strength, aesthetics and many more. Few of the applications also require having wooden strips which are bent. It will help to have the wood joined in a proper manner to the curved portion which exists over the desired application.

Selection of the wood and the process of bending are important to have it bent without suffering any kind of failure. This will require proper knowledge of the behaviour of wood when it is subjected to a bending moment. Even one should consider the effect of the wood due to external parameters when it is kept at the application for a long period of time.

Tools & materials
  • 3-way edge clamps
  • Air compressor
  • Air hose
  • Belt sander
  • Brad nail gun
  • Clamps
  • Miter Saw
  • Paint Tray
  • Paintbrush
  • Sawhorses
  • Table Saw
  • Tape measure

Different methods adopted for wood bending are selected by taking into consideration the property which wood possesses. It can also affect the way wood behaves after they are bent in form of strips. This would require carefully examining the effect of water as steam over the wood when they are subjected to a particular kind of steam.

Steps for preparing the bentwood

It is quite a common problem faced by us regarding how to bend wood? We have discussed here step by step procedure which one can use for bending the wood. Both these steps are important as they are resulting in a particular transformation in wood which is helping ineffective bending of the wooden strip.

Step 1: Buy or Make wooden strips: The first and foremost thing required is the strips. One can either make the strips from the wooden box or can even buy them for making the thin stock of 1/8 to 3/16 inch for the preparation of nosing. Even it is possible by means of ripping a 2 in thick stock on a table saw. It is also required that these strips are long enough that they are capable to allow the tails to be left. Now glue the boards with polyurethane glue and then laminate them together.

Step 2: Polyurethane glue will require moisture to perform its desired function. This will require that you frequently wet the outer surface of the board which you have stuck with the laminate. It is also important to ensure that all the glue applied over the strip dries in a uniform fashion to get the desired shape. One will, therefore, be benefited to get the desired look of the component which is prepared with the bent wood.

Thus, we can say that one can follow the desired bending process of the wood to have it bent in a proper fashion. It will help to ensure that wood is bent and stuck to the desired place in a uniform manner. This will result in improved aesthetics of the component over which bent wood is applied in a uniform fashion.
